Expand Your Base in Dungeon Settlers: Goddess's Tears

Why the base feels cramped

The settlement sits on barren land isolated by magical erosion. The clean area you start on is small, and players building bigger rooms for mood quickly run out of space. The answer is the Goddess’s Tear.

Getting Goddess’s Tears

  1. Research Dark Vine Thorn Purification and Metal Processing. A player on the Steam forum names these two as the requirements for crafting the potions that clear the purple corruption.
  2. Gather clay. Goddess’s Tears cost clay, one reason clay is so valuable early. See how to get clay.
  3. Craft and throw. A tear is thrown like a grenade and clears corruption where it lands.

Aiming for the most land

  • Hit the thorns. The corruption spreads from purple thorns. One player advises packing as many thorns as possible into the blast; another says the cleared area ends up 2 to 3 tiles wider than the blast. Both agree the big purple spikes clear the most.
  • Throw far. The game appears to fill in land around where the tear lands, so throwing to the edge of range gets more.
  • Save first. One tips video recommends saving before each throw, since a bad throw wastes the clay.

Hidden islands

Just outside your starting view there are often other islands of clean land, and two tears can more than double your buildable area. Players report islands that are mostly wood, mostly stone, a mix, small buildings with bones, empty land and, rarely, a survivor who can be rescued. The number, type and position of these islands is set by the map seed you start with. A stone island is one of the best stone sources in the early game (see resources).

Good to know

  • A bug that duplicated Goddess’s Tears was fixed in demo patch v0.3.21.
  • The settlement also has a Guild reward system and random events that sometimes bring free materials.
  • More space means bigger rooms and better mood; see room quality.
