How to Level Up in Dungeon Settlers: Mana Stones and Cap

The short version

  1. Fill the settler’s XP bar (it shows as 30/30 or similar). XP does not level them automatically.
  2. Build a Goddess Statue (unlocked by Basic Wood Processing research) inside a temple.
  3. Have the settler interact with the statue and choose an offering on the Consecration screen.
  4. Pick one inscription and confirm to receive the stat points.

If a settler sits at full XP and never levels, that is the missing statue or missing mana stones, not a bug.

Offerings: Least, Ordinary, Plentiful

OfferingMana stonesExtra stat bonus
Leasthalf0%
Ordinarynormal amount+20%
Plentifuldouble+50%

Both the community wiki and a player’s level-up footage give these three bonuses, and the official Consecration screenshot shows the three options. Stat gains are rolled from the settler’s talent in each attribute, so a Plentiful offering on a Genius talent gives the most.

Talents set the ceiling

TalentPoints per level-up
Poor1 to 3
Moderate2 to 4
Outstanding2 to 5
Exceptional3 to 6
Genius3 to 7

Talent does not change as a settler levels. The only documented way to raise it is the Legendary Perfection inscription, which lifts every talent by one grade. That is why guides tell you to check talents before recruiting.

Rerolling

You can pray again if you dislike the stats or inscriptions, but the previous offering is lost. Some players reload a save before leveling instead. CanOpener already lets you lock stat increases or inscriptions on Easy and Normal and says it is extending that to every difficulty. See all inscriptions.

The level 4 wall and the cap

  • Up to level 4 the offering uses Lesser Mana Stones, which drop from rats, bugs, golems and Mawmurks.
  • Level 4 to 5 needs Intermediate Mana Stones. The prayer option greys out until you have them. Players find them on elites and mini-bosses in the Festering Burrow; adult Gloths drop them often.
  • The cap is level 5 in Early Access. Update 5 raises it to 7 with third-tier skills, Update 6 to 9, and 1.0 to 12. (A known issue lets a level 6 unit join through a random event.)
  • Players report that level 5 is enough to beat the Region 2 boss on Hard.

Leveling has a mood cost

Every level raises a settler’s Treatment Expectations: a high-level settler expects better rooms, food and recreation, and the gap becomes a permanent mood penalty. Humans also get Growth Fatigue while they sit at full XP. Level when your settlement can support it; the mood guide explains how.

Spreading mana stones across four settlers usually beats pushing one star to the cap, because a dead star takes all that investment with them and the rest of the party has to survive without it.
