Dungeon Settlers Abyss: How to Unlock It and What's Inside

How to unlock the Abyss

Clear the Veil of Silence (Giant Stone Golem on Floor 5), then the Festering Burrow and its boss. The credits roll and the Abyss opens. Players asking “how do I open the Abyss” after beating the cave boss usually hit a bug where the portal home failed; a developer confirmed on the Steam forum that it is fixed. If it still happens, update the game, or switch the language to English, return home and switch back.

How it plays

  • Very few rooms. You spawn, clear one room of monsters, and a reward chest appears.
  • Go deeper or go home. After each chest you choose to descend or return to the settlement.
  • Floors 1 to 20. CanOpener’s July 2026 test notes list Abyss floors 1 to 20, and players have posted full 1F to 20F runs on Very Hard.
  • Walls until the end. Since v0.3.21 the Abyss walls stay up until every unit on one side has died, so you cannot leave a fight early.
  • Mana Saturation. A stacking effect in the Abyss; CanOpener plans a UI indicator so you can see your current stacks.

Rewards

Abyss chests give gold and precious raw materials (changed in v0.3.21), and v0.4.12 increased the reward amounts. CanOpener lists “Improve Abyss rewards” among upcoming fixes, and Update 4 adds a trophy building for Abyss rewards.

Preparing a run

  • Level 5 settlers with bloodwood or better gear.
  • A healer and crowd control; each floor is a single all-in fight.
  • Enough food and energy for several floors, since there is little room to rest.

See the regions page for the full map and the bosses guide for the fights that open it.
